Making a difference in someone's life can be as simple as changing a light fitting.
When our electrician Josh visited Lesley through our Positive Connections initiative, we discovered a remarkable woman whose life story is as fascinating as her infectious smile. Having moved seventeen times during her childhood due to her father’s work, Lesley developed a natural ability to adapt and connect with people wherever she went. After settling down, she dedicated many years to serving customers at Woolworths, where her warm personality brightened countless people’s days. Now in her golden years, she finds joy in immersing herself in fantasy audiobooks and never misses an episode of Death in Paradise.
When we learned that Lesley, now widowed, needed assistance with replacing her outdated light fitting, we knew this was exactly why we started our Positive Connections programme. The existing fixture had become a concern, and as part of our commitment to supporting vulnerable members of our community, Josh was delighted to help at no cost.
Josh carefully removed the old fitting, which had served its purpose but was well past its prime. He replaced it with a modern, energy-efficient LED fixture that not only brightens her living space but will also help reduce her energy bills in the long run. The installation was straightforward, but the impact was profound – proper lighting isn’t just about illumination; it’s about creating a safe and comfortable environment for our elderly neighbours.
Throughout the visit, Lesley shared wonderful stories with Josh about her adventures moving from school to school as a child, her cherished memories of working at Woolworths, and her current passion for audiobooks. It’s these moments of connection that make our initiative so rewarding. We’re not just providing electrical services; we’re building relationships and ensuring our elderly community members know they have someone to turn to.
The new light fitting has transformed Lesley’s room, providing better illumination for her reading and daily activities. More importantly, it’s given her peace of mind knowing that her home is now safer with properly installed, modern electrical fixtures. These small improvements can make a significant difference in maintaining independence and quality of life for our elderly residents.
Our Positive Connections initiative continues to demonstrate that community support goes beyond technical expertise – it’s about understanding, caring, and ensuring that our elderly neighbours receive the assistance they deserve. Each project reinforces our commitment to making essential electrical services accessible to those who need them most.
