When Philip's doorbell chime stopped working reliably, Positive Connections stepped in to sort it out, completely free of charge.
There’s something so straightforward about a doorbell. You press the button, a chime sounds inside, and whoever’s home knows someone’s at the door. When it stops working, the impact can be far greater than you’d expect, particularly for older residents living alone. Missing a knock at the door isn’t just an inconvenience; it can mean missing a delivery, a carer, or a family member. For Philip, a pensioner living in Falmouth, that’s exactly the situation he found himself in.
Philip had noticed his doorbell chime wasn’t behaving as it should, and through Positive Connections, our initiative dedicated to providing free electrical services to elderly and vulnerable residents, we arranged to visit and take a look.
After checking things over, it was clear the chime and transformer unit had given up the ghost. Rather than attempting a repair that might only buy a bit more time, the right call was to replace the whole system. The new push button was fitted neatly by the front door, with the wiring running cleanly back through to the interior where the new chime and transformer unit was installed, tested, and working exactly as it should.
Once everything was in place and Philip was happy, that was that, job done.
This is what Positive Connections is all about. It’s not about grand gestures; it’s about showing up for people who need a bit of help with something most of us take for granted. There’s no charge to Philip for any of it, not the labour, not the materials, not a penny.
If you know someone who’s elderly or vulnerable and might benefit from free electrical help, we’d love to hear from you.
