Commercial Distribution Board Modernisation

Modernising a Truro pub's electrical systems through a comprehensive consolidation of multiple distribution boards.

Working within a bustling Truro pub, we carried out an extensive electrical modernisation project to address the establishment’s outdated power distribution systems. The premises relied on multiple plastic consumer units and 3036 rewireable units that no longer met current safety standards, creating both compliance and practical challenges for the business.

Our primary focus centred on streamlining the electrical distribution system through a carefully planned consolidation project. We identified the existing setup, which included multiple plastic consumer units and 3036 rewireable consumer units, could be efficiently consolidated into two modern solutions. This approach would significantly improve safety while providing more effective electrical management capabilities for the establishment.

We installed two sophisticated 20-way fire-rated RCBO consumer units, representing the latest in electrical protection technology and fully complying with the 18th edition wiring regulations. These modern units offer individual circuit protection, ensuring precise electrical management and improved safety throughout the premises. The installation required meticulous planning to maintain power availability during the transition, particularly crucial for a hospitality venue where minimising disruption is essential.

The project involved more than just installation work. We systematically decommissioned and removed all redundant switchgear and associated wiring, ensuring a clean and professional finish. This thorough approach not only improved the aesthetic appearance of the installation but also eliminated potential confusion in future maintenance work.

To properly document and certify the work, we submitted comprehensive Building Control Notifications of Electrical Works upon completion. This documentation ensures the establishment has proper records of the electrical improvements and confirms compliance with all relevant regulations.

The modernisation has significantly improved the pub’s electrical infrastructure, providing a safer, more efficient system that meets all current standards and regulations. This investment in electrical safety and efficiency will serve the establishment well for years to come, while providing peace of mind for both the owners and their customers.
