A comprehensive electrical upgrade project involving the replacement of both the main house and garage consumer units, bringing enhanced safety and reliability to this Redruth property.
During our recent electrical installation project in Redruth, we undertook a significant upgrade of the property’s electrical infrastructure, focusing on replacing outdated consumer units in both the main house and garage. The existing setup required modernisation to meet current safety standards and provide improved circuit protection for the homeowners.
The main house received a sophisticated 14-way RCBO consumer unit, incorporating state-of-the-art safety features including a built-in surge protection device. This addition proves particularly valuable in safeguarding the household’s electronic devices from potentially damaging power fluctuations and unexpected surges from the electrical grid. In today’s homes, where expensive electronics and smart devices are commonplace, this protection has become increasingly essential.
As part of our comprehensive approach, we upgraded the incoming meter tails to robust 25mm double insulated cabling. This improvement ensures optimal power distribution throughout the property while maintaining the highest safety standards. The new installation fully complies with the current 18th Edition of the wiring regulations, reflecting our commitment to delivering installations that exceed industry requirements.
The garage electrical system also received significant attention, with the installation of a new 4-way consumer unit. This separate unit now efficiently manages the garage’s lighting and socket circuits, providing dedicated protection and control for this auxiliary space. The separation of garage circuits from the main house system offers improved safety and more precise circuit management.
To ensure everything functioned correctly and safely, we conducted thorough electrical testing across all circuits within the property. This comprehensive testing process allowed us to generate the required Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC), providing documentation of the installation’s compliance with current regulations. We also handled the necessary Building Control Notification of Electrical Works, ensuring all legal requirements were properly met.
Throughout the installation, we paid particular attention to the specific needs of modern households. The new consumer units offer improved flexibility for future electrical additions while maintaining robust circuit protection. Each circuit now benefits from individual RCBO protection in the main house, providing more targeted safety measures and reducing the likelihood of unnecessary power interruptions.
