EV Charger Installation with Solar Integration

Working with our client’s existing renewable energy setup, we installed a MyEnergi Zappi 7.4kW tethered charging point in their garage. This intelligent system does more than simply charge vehicles – it communicates directly with the solar panels and battery storage to maximise the use of clean energy. We fitted advanced load monitoring equipment that keeps track of the property’s electrical consumption, automatically adjusting the charging rate to prevent system overload whilst ensuring optimal charging efficiency.

The installation required careful planning to integrate with the existing infrastructure. We installed a dedicated consumer unit with built-in surge protection, ensuring the highest safety standards for the charging system. The tethered cable design provides convenience and security, eliminating concerns about cable theft or forgetting to bring a charging lead home.

What sets this installation apart is its intelligent energy management capabilities. The system continuously monitors the available ‘green’ energy generated by the property’s solar panels and stored in the battery system. This means the car can charge predominantly using renewable energy when available, reducing reliance on grid power and lowering running costs. The sophisticated load monitoring device we installed ensures the charging system never overburdens the property’s electrical infrastructure, automatically adjusting power distribution as needed.

The physical installation demanded precision and attention to detail. We carefully planned the cable routing along the garage’s rear wall, maintaining a clean and professional finish that complements the existing setup. The dedicated consumer unit, housed in a weatherproof enclosure, was positioned strategically near the main power supply for optimal performance and easy access.

After completing the physical installation, we conducted extensive testing and commissioning of both the charging point and the monitoring systems. This thorough process ensures everything works in perfect harmony – from the solar panels to the battery storage and now to the EV charger. We provided comprehensive documentation, including the Electrical Installation Certificate, and handled all necessary Building Control notifications, giving our client complete peace of mind about their new charging solution.
