Falmouth’s Tricky Consumer Unit Upgrade

We've completed a challenging consumer unit replacement in Falmouth, pushing our skills to deliver a safer and more robust electrical system for our client.

Our recent project in Falmouth presented us with a proper conundrum. The task at hand was to replace and consolidate existing consumer units, but we were faced with exceptionally short cables that made the job quite tricky. However, we at Wave Electrical Solutions relish these challenges – they’re what keep our work interesting and allow us to showcase our expertise.

We installed a 20-way RCBO fire-rated consumer unit with integrated surge protection, providing our Falmouth client with both peace of mind and the capacity for future electrical additions. To ensure the system could handle increased demand safely, we upgraded the meter tails to 25mm double insulated cabling.

Dealing with short cables requires a delicate balance of patience, skill, and innovative problem-solving. We carefully planned each connection, ensuring every wire found its proper place despite the limited slack. It’s in situations like these that our experience and expertise truly shine through.

The new setup we’ve installed not only meets but surpasses the current 18th Edition wiring regulations. We’ve included surge protection as standard, a feature that safeguards all connected electronic equipment from potentially damaging power grid fluctuations.

After wrestling those short cables into submission and ensuring everything was properly in place, we conducted comprehensive electrical testing. This allowed us to provide our Falmouth client with an Electrical Installation Certificate and submit the required Building Control Notification of Electrical Works.

It’s projects like these that remind us why we’re passionate about our work. Despite the challenges, seeing the end result – a neat, safe, and future-proof consumer unit – makes it all worthwhile. Knowing that we’ve significantly enhanced the safety of our client’s Falmouth home is truly rewarding.
