Working with a property owner in Porthleven, we completed a comprehensive fire safety upgrade alongside modernising the exterior lighting system.
This project centred on bringing the property’s fire detection system fully in line with the September 2023 regulations, requiring careful planning and coordination throughout the installation process. We installed a network of wireless-linked smoke and heat alarms throughout the property, carefully positioning them for maximum effectiveness and minimal visual impact. The system includes specialised smoke detectors in all bedrooms and living spaces, with a heat alarm specifically fitted in the kitchen area, acknowledging the different types of detection needed for various living spaces.
Each unit features mains power with lithium battery backup, ensuring continuous protection even during power outages. The wireless interlinking between alarms means that when one detector is triggered, all units sound simultaneously, providing crucial early warning throughout the property. We installed a total of seven alarms across both floors, creating a comprehensive detection network that meets all current safety standards.
The exterior lighting portion of the work required particular attention to detail, especially considering the coastal location of Porthleven. We fitted three stainless steel recessed LED brick lights, selected specifically for their durability and resistance to maritime conditions. These modern fittings provide effective illumination while maintaining a clean, architectural appearance. The installation process involved careful waterproofing measures, including IP68-rated enclosures and specialised waterproofing gel, ensuring the system remains protected against moisture ingress – a crucial consideration for coastal properties.
The addition of an IP65-rated PIR movement sensor adds both convenience and security, automatically activating the lights when needed. This smart feature not only improves the property’s security but also contributes to energy efficiency by ensuring lights operate only when necessary. All electrical connections were meticulously sealed and protected, with particular attention paid to preventing any water ingress that could compromise the system’s longevity.
