Working with homeowners in Truro, we’ve recently completed a comprehensive electrical installation for their newly constructed home extension. We installed four strategically placed double socket outlets around the room, positioning them according to the planned furniture layout and the homeowners’ anticipated needs. A distinctive feature of this installation was the lighting design around the skylights. We prepared cabling for two downlights positioned between the skylights, providing the infrastructure for future installation. Working with client-supplied plaster-in LED lighting, we created an elegant lighting solution that frames the two skylight windows. These sleek, contemporary lights are controlled by two-way dimmer modules housed in stylish anthracite faceplates, allowing the homeowners to adjust the ambiance according to different times of day and activities.

Safety formed a crucial component of our work. We installed a comprehensive fire detection system throughout the property, with interconnected alarms ensuring whole-home protection. The new lounge received a smoke alarm, while the utility room – with its appliances that generate heat – was fitted with a heat alarm. We also upgraded the existing kitchen with a heat alarm and replaced the hallway smoke detector to ensure compatibility with the wireless interlinking system. All alarms feature mains power with lithium auto-recharging battery backup, providing reliable protection even during power outages.

Our second fix phase involved connecting all fixtures, testing the circuits, and commissioning the system. We conducted thorough testing of each circuit, verifying that all sockets, switches, and lighting functioned correctly and safely. The dimmer controls for the skylight lighting were carefully calibrated to provide smooth, flicker-free operation throughout their range.

The completed installation marries practical functionality with contemporary design. The utility room now offers convenient control over essential household appliances, while the lounge features sophisticated lighting that enhances the architectural feature of the skylights. The anthracite faceplates for the dimmer switches complement the modern aesthetic of the extension, with the plaster-in LED lights creating a seamless, integrated appearance around the skylights.

Throughout the project, we maintained clear communication with the homeowners and other contractors, ensuring our work integrated smoothly with the overall build. By completing the installation in two phases, aligning with the appropriate stages of the construction process – we minimised disruption and worked efficiently within the build schedule.

The finished electrical installation not only meets all current regulations and safety standards but also enhances the functionality and aesthetic appeal of this home extension.
