Commercial LED Lighting Installation for Chacewater Garden Centre Greenhouse

Working with Chacewater Garden Centre, we provided a durable lighting solution tailored specifically for their greenhouse setting. The garden centre needed reliable, weather-resistant lighting that could withstand the unique conditions of a greenhouse while providing consistent illumination for their plants and customer areas.

This commercial project required careful planning to address the distinctive challenges presented by greenhouse environments. The combination of humidity, temperature fluctuations and potential exposure to water meant standard lighting solutions wouldn’t suffice. Additionally, the greenhouse structure with its metal framework required thoughtful cable routing and fixture placement.

We installed four high-performance 72W 6ft LED weatherproof batten light fittings throughout the greenhouse area. These commercial-grade luminaires were selected for their exceptional durability in challenging conditions, delivering bright, uniform illumination across the plant displays while maintaining energy efficiency. The LED technology provides excellent colour rendering, showcasing the plants’ natural colours accurately while consuming significantly less electricity than traditional lighting options.

A key consideration for this project was cable protection. Given the workshop-like environment of the greenhouse with regular movement of equipment and materials, we used steel wire armoured cabling throughout the installation. This 1.5mm 3-core SWA cabling provides superior protection against mechanical damage, offering both physical resilience and electrical safety in this commercial setting. The armoured cabling runs along the greenhouse structure, secured with appropriate fixtures to maintain both safety and visual neatness.

Understanding the garden centre’s operational needs, we integrated a mechanical timer system to automate the lighting schedule. This practical addition allows the staff to programme consistent lighting periods without manual intervention, particularly useful during darker winter months. For flexibility, we included an override switch, giving staff the ability to control the lights manually when needed for maintenance, special events or seasonal adjustments.

The installation process required careful coordination to minimise disruption to the garden centre’s daily operations. Our team worked efficiently, routing cables discreetly along the structural elements of the greenhouse and positioning the light fittings for optimal coverage without shadows or dark spots. Each fitting was securely mounted and tested to verify performance and safety.
