Modern RCBO Consumer Unit Installation in St Austell

Installation of a fire-rated RCBO consumer unit with integrated surge protection, enhancing electrical safety in a St Austell property.

A reliable electrical system forms the cornerstone of any modern home’s infrastructure. This St Austell project showcases our expertise in upgrading residential properties to meet current electrical standards through the installation of a comprehensive RCBO consumer unit system.

The installation focused on replacing the existing unit with a fire-rated RCBO consumer unit, featuring integrated surge protection. This modern system provides individual circuit protection, combining overload protection with residual current detection for each circuit. The integrated Surge Protection Device (SPD) safeguards valuable household electronics from potentially damaging voltage fluctuations and power surges from the national grid.

We upgraded the meter tails to 25mm double-insulated cabling, ensuring optimal power distribution throughout the property. This enhancement improves electrical flow while maintaining strict compliance with current safety regulations. The entire installation adheres to the 18th Edition of the wiring regulations, demonstrating our commitment to industry standards.

The project included installing a dedicated 20-amp circuit for a new oven installation, with careful cable routing through the under-stairs cupboard and beneath kitchen cabinetry. This approach ensures a clean, practical solution that maintains the property’s aesthetics while delivering the necessary power requirements.

Following installation, we conducted comprehensive electrical testing across all circuits, producing an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) and completing the Building Control Notification of Electrical Works. This documentation confirms the installation’s compliance with current regulations and provides assurance of the system’s safety and reliability.

The new RCBO consumer unit represents a significant upgrade in electrical safety, offering individualised circuit protection that allows unaffected circuits to remain operational during fault conditions, minimising disruption while maintaining safety.
