MyEnergi Zappi EV Charger Installation in Tintagel

A comprehensive electric vehicle charging solution was implemented in Tintagel, featuring a 7.4kW MyEnergi Zappi tethered charger with integrated load monitoring capabilities.

The growing adoption of electric vehicles throughout Cornwall has prompted more homeowners to seek reliable home charging solutions. For this residential property in Tintagel, we delivered a complete installation package centred around the sophisticated MyEnergi Zappi charging system.

The installation focused on implementing a 7.4kW tethered charging point, carefully positioned on the exterior wall for optimal accessibility and convenience. By selecting a tethered model, we provided the homeowner with an integrated charging cable permanently connected to the unit, eliminating the need to store and handle separate cables whilst offering protection against potential cable theft.

The technical aspects of the installation required careful consideration of the property’s electrical infrastructure. We configured the system with a dedicated 40A circuit breaker within the existing consumer unit, reorganising the lighting circuits to accommodate the new installation efficiently. This modification created the necessary space for the EV charging circuit without compromising the existing electrical setup.

A particularly important feature of this installation was the integration of an advanced load monitoring system. This intelligent component continuously analyses the property’s electrical consumption, automatically adjusting the charging rate to prevent system overload. This smart functionality provides peace of mind, ensuring the charging system works harmoniously with other household electrical demands.

We also improved the property’s electrical resilience by installing a surge protective device (SPD) inline with the main electrical distribution. This addition replaced an obsolete Economy 7 consumer unit, offering crucial protection against voltage spikes and electrical surges that could potentially damage sensitive electronic equipment, including the new charging system.

The installation process involved meticulous attention to aesthetic details, with the supply cable thoughtfully routed at low level along the property’s exterior, concealed within the render run-off before connecting to the charging unit. This approach maintained the property’s visual appeal while ensuring a robust electrical connection.

Following the physical installation, we conducted comprehensive electrical testing, producing the required Electrical Installation Certificate and submitting the necessary Building Control Notification of Electrical Works. These steps not only comply with regulatory requirements but also document the installation’s safety and compliance with current standards.
