Smoke Alarms – Interlinking & Compliant With The New Regulations

We've recently completed a vital fire safety upgrade for a local property, ensuring compliance with the latest regulations and providing peace of mind for the occupants.

When we arrived at the property, we knew we had an important task ahead of us. The homeowners were keen to bring their fire safety measures in line with current standards, especially with the new regulations that came into effect in September 2023. We got straight to work, carefully planning the placement of each alarm to maximise coverage and protection.

In the two bedrooms, we installed state-of-the-art, non-mains powered smoke alarms. These clever devices come with a 10-year lithium battery, which means no more irritating chirps in the middle of the night when batteries run low. But the real beauty of these alarms is their ability to interlink. If one detects smoke, they all sound the alarm, giving everyone in the house the best chance of a swift evacuation.

The kitchen presented a different challenge. We replaced the existing smoke detector with a multi-sensor alarm, which is much better suited to this environment. It’s less likely to be triggered by cooking smoke, but it’s still incredibly sensitive to actual fire threats. This new alarm is powered by the mains but has a rechargeable lithium battery as a backup, ensuring it’ll work even during a power cut. We also made sure it was equipped with a wireless RF interlinking module, so it could communicate with the bedroom alarms.

The whole system now works in harmony, providing a robust network of protection throughout the property. We took the time to explain how everything works to the homeowners, showing them how to test the system and what to listen out for. They were delighted with the upgrade, and we left feeling proud that we’d made their home that much safer.

It’s projects like these that remind us why we do what we do. Every alarm we install could potentially save a life, and that’s a responsibility we take very seriously. We’re always happy to chat about fire safety, so if you’re wondering if your home meets current regulations, give us a ring. We’ll be more than happy to pop round and take a look.
