We've recently completed a thorough electrical overhaul for a holiday rental in St Newlyn East, elevating it to the latest safety standards and boosting its energy efficiency.
We’ve been busy with a multifaceted electrical project that’s truly transformed a local holiday let. We began by replacing the existing consumer unit with an advanced dual tariff RCBO unit, ideal for managing both daytime and Economy 7 electricity usage. This wasn’t a straightforward swap – we had to extend cables within the unit to ensure everything fit properly and worked seamlessly with the new configuration.
Our work didn’t stop there. We conducted a thorough inspection and testing of the entire electrical system in the property. This allowed us to produce an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), giving the property owner confidence in the safety of their electrical system for continued use.
The most significant upgrade came with our work on the fire safety system. We installed a network of mains-powered, hardwired, and interlinked smoke, heat, and CO alarms throughout the property. This system is designed to meet the updated Fire Regulations for short stay rentals that came into effect in September 2023. We’ve installed heat alarms in the kitchen and utility room, a multi-sensor in the living room that detects heat, smoke, and CO, and smoke alarms on the landing and in both bedrooms. These alarms are all powered by a dedicated circuit in the consumer unit and feature tamper-proof, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries as a backup.
To finish the job, we produced an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) and submitted a Building Control Notification of Electrical Works. It’s been a comprehensive project that’s brought this holiday-let up to date with the latest safety standards. We’re pleased with the work we’ve done and the reassurance it’ll provide to both the property owner and their future guests.
