Facilitating high-speed satellite internet access in Camelford with a secure Starlink installation. This project involved fitting the client's dish and mast to the property's gable end, providing an optimal and weatherproof solution for rural connectivity in Cornwall.
In many areas across Cornwall, accessing fast and reliable internet can still be a bit of a challenge. While fibre optic networks are expanding, they haven’t reached every corner just yet. For homeowners and businesses in places like Camelford, this can mean putting up with slow connections. Satellite internet, particularly Starlink, offers a practical alternative, delivering high-speed broadband by communicating directly with a constellation of low-Earth orbit satellites. However, the performance of the system hinges entirely on the placement and stability of the satellite dish, or ‘Dishy’ as it’s known.
This particular job was a Starlink installation in Camelford where the client had their equipment ready to go. Our role was to handle the physical fitting of the dish to the exterior of the house. The goal is always to find a location that provides the dish with a completely clear and unobstructed view of the sky. Trees, chimneys, and even the roof’s overhang can interfere with the signal, leading to intermittent dropouts. After assessing the property, the gable end wall was identified as the most suitable position. Mounting the dish here lifts it clear of any potential ground-level obstructions and gives it a wide-open perspective.
The process began with securely fixing the Starlink mast to the gable end. This provides a solid foundation that can withstand wind and rain, which is pretty important given the Cornish weather. Once the mast was firmly in place, the dish was attached. We then needed to route the integrated cable from the dish into the property. To do this, a small, neat hole was drilled through the wall, angled correctly to prevent any water ingress. The cable was carefully fed through into the loft space.
With the cable inside, it’s important to make sure the entry point is completely sealed from the elements. We use appropriate sealants to weatherproof the hole, leaving a tidy and durable finish that protects the building’s fabric. The final step inside was to run the cable to the Starlink router, which the client wanted positioned in the loft where a power socket was conveniently already available. This keeps the main hardware out of sight while it wirelessly broadcasts the high-speed connection throughout the home. A professional installation gives peace of mind that the hardware is secure, the cabling is discreet, and the system is positioned to deliver the best possible performance from day one.
