Is your emergency lighting up to date?

Emergency Lighting Services
(Installation & Testing)

Emergency lighting isn’t just a nice-to-have, it’s a statutory requirement, and getting it right is one of the most important things you can do to keep your staff, customers, and premises safe. Whether you’re installing a system from scratch, taking on a new building, or trying to get a handle on existing testing obligations, we make the whole process straightforward. We design, install, test, and document everything to the relevant British Standards, giving you a fully compliant system and the paperwork to prove it.

Fully Compliant

Emergency lighting has to meet specific design and performance standards under current regulations, and getting it wrong can leave you exposed in the event of an inspection, a fire risk assessment, or worse, an actual emergency. We design every installation around the layout of your building, identifying escape routes, exit points, open areas, and high-risk zones to make sure each location is properly covered. The result is a system that meets the relevant British Standards in full, supported by proper documentation that gives you confidence and keeps your responsible person on the right side of the regulations.

Hassle-Free Testing

Routine testing of your emergency lighting is a legal requirement, and we know that keeping on top of monthly and annual tests is often the part that slips when a business gets busy. We can take that off your hands completely, scheduling visits at times that suit you, carrying out the required functional and duration tests, and producing the records you need for your log book. You won't have to chase us, remember when the next test is due, or worry about whether your documentation will stand up to scrutiny. We just turn up, do the job, and update your records.

Documented Properly

Compliance isn't just about having the right kit installed, it's also about being able to prove that it's been tested, maintained, and is performing as it should. We provide full certification on installation and detailed test records after every visit, all kept in a format that's easy to file, easy to find, and ready to show any fire officer, insurer, or auditor who asks to see it. If you've inherited a system with patchy or missing records, we can carry out a full inspection and bring everything up to date, so you've got a clean slate moving forward.

Clear Pricing

We know that compliance work often sits within a fixed facilities budget, and you need to know what you're committing to before signing anything off. Our quotes are clear, itemised, and fixed, whether you're looking at a new installation, an upgrade, or an ongoing testing contract. There's no vague hourly billing, no surprise call-out fees, and no padded extras. If we spot something during a test that needs attention, we'll flag it with you and agree what to do next before any additional work goes ahead, so you're always in control of what's being spent.

Top Questions & Answers

Here are the top questions we’re frequently asked about emergency lighting…

For any non-domestic premises where people work, visit, or stay, emergency lighting is a statutory requirement under fire safety legislation. The exact extent depends on the size, layout, and use of the building, but in the vast majority of commercial, industrial, and public premises, an appropriately designed system is something you’re legally obliged to have in place, test regularly, and document.

Current standards require a brief functional test every month and a full duration test once a year. The monthly test confirms each unit illuminates when the supply is interrupted, while the annual test runs each luminaire for its full rated duration to make sure it can perform when it really matters. Both tests need to be properly recorded in a log book that’s available for inspection.

A maintained luminaire is one that’s lit at all times during normal operation, switching to its battery supply if the mains fails. A non-maintained luminaire only illuminates when the mains supply is lost, sitting dormant the rest of the time. Maintained units are typically used for exit signs that need to be visible at all times, while non-maintained units are often used for escape route and open area lighting.

Yes, absolutely. We’re happy to take on the testing and maintenance of an existing installation, whether it’s recently installed or has been in place for years. We’ll start with a full inspection to make sure everything is in good working order and properly compliant, then set up a regular testing schedule that takes the responsibility off your hands completely.

If a luminaire fails a functional or duration test, we’ll let you know straight away and explain what’s needed to put it right. In many cases, it’s a simple battery replacement or a faulty unit that needs swapping out. We’ll provide a quote for any remedial work and, with your approval, get the system back into a fully compliant state as quickly as possible.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY

Our Emergency Lighting Process

BEFORE

Site Survey: We visit your premises to identify escape routes, risk areas, and the exact positions where each emergency light or exit sign needs to fit.

Design Plan: We produce a clear layout drawing showing every luminaire location, confirming the spec meets all current emergency lighting standards in full.

Fixed Quote: We send a clear, itemised quote with no hidden extras, so you know exactly what’s included and what the project will cost from the start.

DURING

First Fix: We install all the containment and cabling to the agreed positions, working tidily around your operations and any other trades on the site.

Installation: We fit each emergency luminaire and exit sign, connect them to dedicated circuits, and make sure everything matches the agreed design layout.

Commissioning: We carry out full discharge and duration tests on each unit, confirming the system performs correctly before any final sign-off happens.

AFTER

Certification: We issue all completion certificates and supporting documentation, giving you a fully compliant record to keep on file for your premises.

Walkthrough: We show you how the system works, explain the testing schedule, and let you know what to do if a fault indicator ever appears on a unit.

Aftercare: We’re on hand to handle your ongoing testing and inspections going forward, taking the whole compliance burden off your plate completely.
