Fitting out a new shop?

Retail & Shopfitting Electrical Contractors

When you’re fitting out a retail space, every day the doors are shut is a day without sales. We work with shopfitters, retailers, and main contractors across Cornwall to deliver electrical installations that look the part, function properly, and get finished on time. From feature display lighting and smart controls through to power layouts for tills, fridges, and digital signage, we know what retail spaces need and we know how to deliver it without dragging the project out. Whether it’s a brand new store, a complete refit, or a refresh of an existing space, we’ll work to your programme and your budget.

Lighting That Sells

Display lighting in retail isn't just about visibility, it's about making the product look as good as it possibly can and drawing customers towards the things you want them to see. We work from lighting designs or directly with your shopfitter to deliver track systems, recessed downlights, feature pendants, and accent lighting that highlights merchandise the way it deserves to be seen. Colour temperature, beam angles, and dimming are all considered properly rather than as an afterthought, and the LED kit we use means low running costs and minimal heat output, both of which matter when the lights are on all day, every day.

Smart Controls

Modern retail lighting can do a lot more than just switch on in the morning and off at night. Programmable controls let you set different lighting scenes for opening, trading hours, closing, and cleaning, all running automatically without staff having to touch a thing. Daylight sensors can trim back the lights when there's enough natural light coming in, and zoning means you only light the parts of the shop that need it. We design and install lighting control systems that match how the store actually operates, giving you better atmosphere on the shop floor and lower bills at the end of the month.

Quick Turnaround

Every retail project has a launch date, and the electrical contractor needs to be one of the trades you don't have to worry about. We plan our works carefully, turn up with everything we need, and crack on without dragging the job out. Where it makes sense, we work outside of trading hours, over weekends, or in phased shifts to keep an existing store open while the refit progresses around the customers. We've delivered plenty of installations to tight launch dates, and we understand the cost of slipping. Our job is to get in, get it done properly, and get out of your way.

Finished to a Standard

Retail spaces are judged on the details. Cable runs that should be hidden, accessories that don't line up, light fittings that aren't centred. Any of those things will catch the eye of a customer and tell them the shop hasn't been finished properly. We treat the visual side of the installation with the same care as the electrical side, making sure every accessory, fitting, and finish is positioned and aligned the way it should be. The end result is a shop that looks as sharp as the design intended, with no awkward compromises or rough edges left for the shopfitter to apologise for at handover.

Top Questions & Answers

Here are the top questions we’re frequently asked about retail & shop installations…

Yes, this is something we’re used to. Retail projects nearly always have a fixed launch date, and our planning is built around hitting that target. We agree the programme with you upfront, allocate the right people to the job, and make sure materials are on site when they need to be. If anything looks like it could threaten the deadline, we flag it early so we can find a way around it together rather than telling you about it the day before opening.

In many cases, yes. Refurbishment and refit projects on trading stores often need to be phased so the shop can keep operating while the work progresses. We can work overnight, before opening hours, in sections, or behind hoardings, depending on what suits the situation. We’ll talk through the practicalities at quote stage and put together a plan that minimises disruption to your trading.

Absolutely. A lot of our retail work comes via shopfitters, main contractors, and project managers, and we’re comfortable operating as part of a wider fit-out team. We attend site meetings, work to the agreed programme, coordinate with the other trades, and provide all the certification and paperwork needed for project handover. The relationship works because we do what we say we’ll do and turn up when we say we’ll turn up.

We’re happy to work either way. If you’ve got a designer or architect involved, we’ll install to their specification and feed back on anything that needs adjusting in the field. If you don’t, we can put together a lighting and power layout ourselves based on your shop’s layout, fixtures, and how the space is going to be used. We’ll talk through the options and recommend what works best for the look and the budget.

We can absolutely help with that. Lighting upgrades, additional sockets, signage repairs, emergency lighting tests, and general electrical maintenance are all things we offer to retail clients on a planned or reactive basis. A lot of the shops we fit out stay on as ongoing customers, simply because it’s easier to deal with the same electrician who put the original installation in rather than starting fresh with someone new.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY

Our 3-Phase Installation Process

BEFORE

Site Visit: We come to the shop to take in the space, review the existing installation, and understand exactly what the fit-out or refurbishment needs to deliver.

Quote and Plan: We put together a clear, itemised quote and a programme that fits around your launch date or trading hours, with no vague areas left open.

Materials: We order all fittings, accessories, and equipment in advance so everything is ready and on site for the day the installation work begins, with no delays.

DURING

First Fix: We install containment, cabling, and back boxes to the agreed positions, working tidily and coordinating with the shopfitter and other trades on site.

Lighting Fit: We install the display lighting, track systems, and feature fittings to the design layout, making sure every fitting is properly aligned and positioned.

Final Fix: We fit accessories, complete connections, set up the controls, and run through the system to make sure everything operates exactly as it should do.

AFTER

Testing: We carry out full testing and inspection of the completed installation, producing the necessary certification before the project moves to opening day.

Handover: We walk you through the lighting controls and any other systems, so you and your team know how everything works before the doors open to customers.

Aftercare: We’re easy to get hold of after handover for any tweaks, additions, or further work, with quick response times for issues that affect your trading.
