Modern Electrical Accessory and Lighting Update in Newquay

A recent project in a Newquay home involved a complete refresh of all electrical faceplates to a modern matt black finish. The work included the strategic installation of integrated USB-A/C sockets in key living areas, the replacement of multiple light fittings, and the creation of a new, concealed socket for a wall-mounted television.

The objective for this Newquay property was to modernise both the function and form of its electrical fittings. The existing sockets and switches, while serviceable, were to be replaced with a consistent, contemporary style that would complement the home’s interior design. We undertook a comprehensive replacement of every visible electrical accessory throughout the house.

The chosen range was the Scolmore Click Deco in a screwed matt black finish, which provides a sophisticated and uniform appearance. The scope of this work was extensive, covering every room and requiring the replacement of more than forty individual items. This included a variety of fittings, from standard double sockets to single and double light switches and switched fused spurs, creating a cohesive aesthetic across the entire property.

A significant part of the functional upgrade was the introduction of double sockets with integrated USB-A and USB-C charging ports. These were not installed randomly but were placed in locations where the demand for device charging is highest. We fitted them on either side of the beds in three bedrooms, providing convenient overnight charging without the need for bulky adapters. Further USB sockets were installed in the second-floor bedroom, the kitchen worktop area, and the living room, acknowledging how these spaces are used in a modern household.

Alongside the accessory upgrade, the project also involved new lighting. The client supplied ten new ceiling pendant light fittings, which we installed in place of the old units. This part of the job required careful removal of the existing pendants and secure installation of the new fixtures. We also replaced the exterior light at the rear of the property. For this, care was taken to position the new, client-supplied fitting so that it was centred with the peak of the roof, achieving a symmetrical and visually pleasing result.

One of the more involved tasks was in the living room, where the client wanted to mount a television on the chimney breast without visible cables. To achieve this, we extended the ground floor socket circuit to a new high-level position. This required us to chase out the masonry wall to recess the new cabling, running it from a nearby power source. Once the new metal back box was in place and the cabling was terminated, we backfilled the chases with bonding coat plaster. This left the wall surface prepared and ready for a final decorative finish by another tradesperson, ensuring the new socket would be perfectly integrated into the room. During the project, we also investigated a reported fault with a socket near the fireplace, diagnosing the issue and restoring its function.
