This project in St Newlyn East involved a complete ground-floor lighting renewal, introducing versatile colour-selectable downlights. We also fitted a new suite of contemporary sockets and switches throughout the kitchen area to complement the home's updated interior.
A recent electrical project took us to a home in St Newlyn East, where the ground floor was ready for a significant update. The work focused on two main areas: the general lighting throughout the ground-floor rooms and the electrical accessories in the kitchen.
The lighting scheme was the first part of the process. The objective was to replace the existing recessed downlights with more modern, efficient, and adaptable alternatives. In total, eleven new dimmable downlight fittings were installed across the ground floor. A key feature of these new units is their colour-selectable technology. This allows the homeowner to adjust the light output from a warm white to a cool white, or a daylight setting in between, using a small switch on each unit. This level of control is incredibly useful for creating different moods within a space – a warm, cosy glow for relaxing in the evening or a crisp, clear light for working or cleaning. The installation involved connecting the new fittings into the existing lighting circuits and confirming their correct operation with the new dimmer controls.
During the removal of the old units, any fittings that were still in good working order were set aside. These serviceable downlights were then used to replace any non-working fittings on the first floor, providing a cost-effective solution for the client.
Attention then turned to the kitchen, where the aesthetic and functional aspects of the electrical outlets were addressed. The client had sourced their own stylish, dark-finish sockets and switches to match their decor. Our role was to install these units professionally. The work included replacing countertop socket outlets, providing convenient power for everyday appliances. We also fitted a new cooker isolator switch and a fused switch for other integrated appliances. A significant change was the installation of a new four-gang light switch, for which we supplied and fitted the necessary dimmer modules. This allows for full dimming control over the new kitchen lighting, adding another layer of versatility to the room’s atmosphere.
The new sockets and switches provide a clean, contemporary finish that works well with the kitchen’s design, demonstrating how updating electrical accessories can have a substantial impact on a room’s overall look and feel.
